Bright glowing skin that’s healthy and youthful in appearance is highly coveted and desired by countless men and women. However, many people mistakenly believe that flawless skin can only be achieved with a significant investment of time, money, and multiple surgeries. But, thanks to microdermabrasion, a single noninvasive cosmetic procedure can deliver the same outstanding results. Microdermabrasion is a procedure that gently exfoliates and removes the outermost layer of the skin, revealing a smoother, younger looking appearance. Various techniques have been used to polish and refine the skin for several decades, but modern, medical-grade technology makes the microdermabrasion treatment safer and more powerful than ever before. Microdermabrasion is a quick, restorative treatment that is performed in-office at The Bloom Medical Spa in Dallas, TX by our Licensed Medical Esthetician, Sherri Alford.

Microdermabrasion is a mild procedure that is safe and highly effective for all skin types. The procedure is ideal for minor skin imperfections such as enlarged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, uneven skin texture, and dull skin. However, the procedure is not recommended for more severe skin imperfections. Ideal candidates are in overall good health and do not suffer from severe acne or any other skin infections.
What To Expect
At the start of the procedure, the treatment area will be cleansed of any dirt, oil, or makeup. The dermabrasion wand will then be gently guided across the skin using semicircular motions with the diamond head tip. Dead skin cells will simultaneously be vacuumed or brushed away with each stroke of the dermabrasion wand. Following treatment, a hydrating serum and moisturizer will be applied to the treatment area to soothe and nourish the skin, along with a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher for protection.
The depth of exfoliation achieved with microdermabrasion can leave the skin feeling dry and tight, similar to a mild sunburn for up to 24 hours after treatment. Commonly, patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment, but many patients need several days to recover. Patients should refrain from full face makeup for the first few days following treatment to avoid cross-contamination and irritation from dirty cosmetic tools and allow the skin to breathe and rejuvenate itself. Sun avoidance is also crucial for 5 – 7 days following treatment. Most patients require 2 – 3 treatment sessions to obtain their desired outcome. The results of a single microdermabrasion treatment can last several weeks, but regular maintenance treatments can prolong a renewed, youthful appearance.
