With all of the advances and trends in cosmetic medicine over the years, BOTOX is one treatment that has remained popular for its many uses and stunning results. Fine lines and wrinkles that have not responded to other treatments in the past generally respond very well to BOTOX injections when performed by a certified injector. At The Bloom Medical Spa, in Dallas, TX, we are proud to offer BOTOX to the residents of Dallas, Plano, and the surrounding Texas communities. At our MedSpa, all of our BOTOX injections are performed by Carolyn Craft, a licensed Registered Nurse who is also a Certified Nurse Injector, or our Physician Assistant, Karen Wiltin. BOTOX is one of many treatment options available for fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. It is ultimately the choice of the patient if BOTOX is the best treatment for them.
Patients may consider BOTOX if they are looking to:
- Temporarily diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
- Have smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.
- Try an alternative remedy for migraines.
- Reduce excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
BOTOX is most well-known for its use as a treatment for signs of aging in the face. It can not only help people look younger but help them regain self-confidence as well.
What To Expect
Prior to treatment, it is very important that patients notify the nurse injector if they have undergone other kinds of injections in the last four months. Also, patients should be sure to inform them of any allergy drugs, sleep aids, or muscle relaxers that they may be taking at the time of their appointment. Medications such as ibuprofen and other blood thinners must be avoided prior to their treatment as these increase bleeding and bruising risks associated with the procedure.
Our certified injector will use an ultrafine hypodermic needle to send BOTOX directly into the muscles in the treatment area. The number of injections needed will depend on the amount and severity of the lines and wrinkles being treated. The procedure is performed in-office and, for most patients, results can last for 3 – 4 months following treatment. Once the lines and wrinkles begin to become visible again, another treatment should be scheduled.
Following a BOTOX treatment, patients should make sure to avoid harsh rubbing of the face and avoid participating in any exercise or other rigorous activities. Patients will still be able to create facial expressions, such as smiling or frowning, immediately following BOTOX. Any post-treatment pain or discomfort can be subdued with a cold compress on the treatment areas and/or taking a pain reliever.
BOTOX for Hyperhidrosis
Often, when people think of BOTOX, many think of it as a treatment for smoothing out wrinkles and other signs of aging. It may not be as well-known; however, it also has many other medical uses. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a medical condition characterized by an unusual amount of perspiration. Although hyperhidrosis can affect any part of the body, it is found to affect the armpits, hands, and feet most often. Hyperhidrosis can now be treated with BOTOX, as the FDA has recently approved it as a practical treatment option for excessive sweating. A severe reduction in perspiration has been seen when BOTOX is applied to the affected area, with results lasting up to 200 days. Where topical products, antiperspirants, and deodorants have been ineffective, BOTOX works to temporarily block nerve signals sent to the body’s sweat glands that stimulate perspiration. When BOTOX blocks these signals from being received by the sweat glands, the body does not get the message to begin sweating.
Our certified injector begins the treatment by injecting small amounts of BOTOX in the affected area, specifically targeting the sweat glands. Multiple injections will be given using a very fine needle in order to block the skin muscles in the affected area from communicating with the sweat glands. If the hands or feet are to be treated, the injector may apply a mild topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.
